i’m a visual artist with a photo & installation based practice.
Morgan Sears-Williams is a white settler and visual artist currently working and living in Toronto and holds a BFA in Photography at OCAD University. Her art practice explores and is influenced by feminist and queer movements and activism, contemporary and intersectional feminist art practices and archiving. Interested in questioning and challenging the ways that art can be a tool for social change. Additionally, how to implicate viewers in art works to encourage dialogue and to make change within their own communities.
Experimenting through zines, audio/visual installations, and lens-based works, they explore themes around gender based violence, queerness, the construction of history and how stories can be re-imagined through contemporary art. Storytelling is a key element in their work, in which they act as a facilitator and focus on the voices of the individuals in the work who can speak to their personal experience. Collaboration and co-ownership of materials and stories are ways that Morgan attempts to break the singular notion of artist and amplify voices.
They are also the Art curator of The Rude Collective, a queer arts collective amplifying voices of marginalized queer folks in Toronto.
